Can You Cool Your Hot Flashes with Maca?
Some women have found that they CAN ease their menopausal hot flashes with maca, Maca is a root from the Peruvian Andes. It looks like a radish and the Peruvians use it for food. Will it help you? In my experience, Progesterone or progesterone blended with estrogen is the gold standard for easing flushing and sweating, but sometimes hot flashes become unbearable and you want to add something to your hormone cremes.
Black Cohosh only works for some women; for others it does nothing. Maca is a better choice. Controlled studies have shown that Maca can alleviate flashing. It is also found to alleviate anxiety and depression in women AND can also be beneficial to blood pressure.
Maca Root
Maca treatment has been associated with the alleviation of many menopausal symptoms including reductions in the frequency and severity of hot flashes, excessive sweating, nervousness, AND interrupted sleep patterns.
It is ALSO known as a treatment for low libido, Scientific reviews of maca show that it is quite safe so if you feel that it is helping you, there is no reason not to continue taking it. It is found to work herbally and does not disrupt hormone receptor sites. So, no worries there.
Note: Even if maca relieves your hot flashes, there’s no good evidence to show that it protects against bone thinning and osteoporosis as bio-identical hormones do, so do not neglect your hormone crème, ladies.
Maca is available by capsule, but I love a tincture that you can put in a little juice and drink twice daily.

Here is a good testimonial:
Q. Thank you for writing about maca for hot flashes. I took it twice a day for a month, and my hot flashes disappeared during the day. I also used to suffer from intense night sweats, about four a night, and now I experience only a very mild one about once a night.
